Sommerville

Somerville is a contemporary American restaurant and cocktail bar located in the Historic View Park-Windsor Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. Co-founded by actress and entrepreneur Issa Rae, along with partners Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan, the establishment opened its doors in November 2024. The trio, who also co-own Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen, aimed to create a space that honors the rich cultural history of South Central LA while offering a modern dining experience.

The restaurant’s design draws inspiration from the vibrant jazz scene that flourished in South Central Los Angeles during the 1920s to 1950s. The interior features rich mahogany paneling, plush velvet seating, and a central stage with a baby grand piano, where live music performances enhance the dining ambiance. This aesthetic pays homage to historic venues like the original Hotel Somerville, a Black-owned establishment that served as a cultural hub during the jazz era.

Somerville’s menu, curated by Chef Geter Atienza, offers a progressive American dining experience that blends traditional influences with modern techniques. Notable dishes include Fried Chicken and Caviar Sliders, Collard Green Lasagna, and Parker House Rolls. The beverage program, led by Steen Bojsen-Møller, features a selection of craft cocktails and a thoughtfully curated wine list.

Since its opening, Somerville has garnered positive reviews for its exceptional food, inviting atmosphere, and live entertainment. The restaurant operates Wednesday through Sunday, with reservations available via OpenTable.
